More about the concert
The Colorado Choir and Denver Pops Orchestra joined forces to showcase the work of celebrated American composer, conductor, author, and educator Leonard Bernstein. Our combined concert, Psalms and Passion: The Music of Leonard Bernstein, highlighted some of the composer’s most dramatic and most popular music.
Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms was presented in its entirety with full orchestra and choir. The soaring work combines the Hebrew language with the Christian choral tradition. Written in 1965, Bernstein was implicitly issuing a plea for peace in Israel during a turbulent time in the young country’s history.
The evening also featured music from West Side Story and Candide—first by The Colorado Choir, then by the Denver Pops Orchestra, and finally by the two combined.
