Two French Masses
Requiem Opus 9 by Maurice Duruflé and Mass in G Major by Francis Poulenc
Maurice Duruflé, a French composer, was commissioned in May 1941 by the Vichy regime to compose a symphonic poem. When the regime collapsed in 1944, he was still working on his Requiem. He completed it in 1947.
Duruflé, in a letter to Randolph Jones, stated that the Colorado Choir’s presentation of his Requiem, here included, revealed an “outstanding interpretation…excellent…perfect…a lot of power.”
This performance was recorded live in Denver’s Boettcher Concert Hall with The Colorado Choir Festival Orchestra.
