Frostiana – Poetry of Robert Frost
Randall Thompson was commissioned to compose a work to commemorate the bicentennial of Amherst, Massachusetts in 1959. Robert Frost had lived there for several years and the two were friends. Frostiana is the product of the collaboration of Frost’s poetry and Thompson’s musical genius.
Thompson, noted for his choral works, taught at both Harvard and The Curtis Institute of Music. He taught many well-known musicians at both institutions, among them Leonard Bernstein.
This recording of Randall Thompson’s great choral music includes Frostiana, based on the poetry of Robert Frost, Peaceable Kingdom, Alleluia, and The Last Words of David.
