The Colorado Choir’s members come from all walks of life, united in our love of choral music. For our 50th Anniversary Season, we want to introduce (and re-introduce!) our members to our audience. We also asked them if they would like to share any thoughts on what music and The Colorado Choir mean to them.
We look forward to meeting you at our concerts and events this season!
This month we showcase our Bass section.
Andrew C.
Years with the Choir: 2
Fun Facts about Andrew:
- Andrew’s years in a Catholic boarding school choir took him to some amazing places, including going through Checkpoint Charlie to sing Mass in East Berlin while on tour in 1987.
- A first career as a community organizer in East London and Birmingham led to teaching in six countries across four continents before settling down in Denver-area public schools.
- Andrew and his family are probably more sporty than musical, with most weekends taken up with soccer – playing, watching, refereeing. It is tactless to point out that Andrew probably referees more these days because he is now the weakest player in the family.
Foster B.
Years with the Choir: 8
Foster’s Thoughts on Music:
Music is a gift, and it needs to be exercised and shared to be a worthwhile gift. The Colorado Choir provides a platform for exercising, challenging, and sharing the gift. Kelly’s sarcasm is just a bonus.
Fun Facts about Foster:
- Foster’s humility is matched only by his intelligence and superior athletic abilities. His sincerity and grasp on reality are often called into question.
- He flew the A-10 Warthog, the Air Force’s ugliest fighter aircraft, for several years. The motto of the Warthog drivers is, “We may be ugly, but we’re slow.”
- Golf, skiing, and SCUBA are high on the list of desirable things to do. They all rank three or more furlongs behind being hugging his 7- and 10-year-old granddaughters.
James G.

Fun Facts about James:
- James is happiest gardening, cooking, eating…and singing.

Ken’s Thoughts on Music:
I have had a joyful response to singing as long as I can recall. I have no idea why, but it is there and has been for most of my 82 years. The quality of my fellow singers and variety of music sung makes The Colorado Choir a good fit.

- At 82, he is the senior singer in the choir.

Steve B.
Years with the Choir: 3
Steve’s Thoughts on Music:
Music allows me to experience emotions that words alone can’t capture. I especially love making music with other people—it makes me feel part of something bigger than myself.
Singing with The Colorado Choir helps me forget my worries! Our rehearsals demand my full attention, which means I get 2 ½ hours every Sunday night completely free from the distractions of the world. I always leave rehearsal in a great mood!
Fun Facts about Steve:
- Steve is recently retired from his career as a math professor. His lectures are a great cure for insomnia!
- He once did a back flip in class to wake his students up.
- Steve met his wife ballroom dancing.
Steve O.
Years with the Choir: 4
Steve’s Thoughts on Music:
Music expresses life with so much richness, when words often fail us.
John Rutter (composer & conductor) stated: “Choral music is not one of life’s frills. It goes to the very heart of our humanity, our sense of community, and our souls. When you sing with others, it becomes more than the sum of the parts—an emblem of what we need in this world.”
I am grateful for everyone in The Colorado Choir and for the opportunity create music every time we sing together!
Fun Facts about Steve:
- “B Flat!” were the first words that Steve spoke, for his mother was a piano teacher and put the crib under the Grand Piano where she taught the PACE method of music.
- Serving on the Board for the Colorado Parks Foundation, he advocates for people with mobility issues to use State Parks and has climbed 35 of the 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado.
- He was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for Jazz Trumpet; however chose a career in software.
